Soft Furnishings for Christmas

Christmas is a time for celebration and a time when we dress our home festively. Christmas decorations such as holly, baubles and candles are the things you may first think of but soft furnishings can make a home look very cosy and festive too. Whether your home is decked out in designer furniture, family heirlooms or flat-pack furniture, everyone want their home to look fab at Christmas.

Soft furnishings include bed linen, chair covers, cushions, curtains, towels and other fabric accessories for the home.

Soft furnishings are more costly to buy than a garland of tinsel but they can have more impact because they are bigger so they are definitely worth thinking about for any room in your house.

Create a fabulous look in the bathroom by using Christmas towels. There are plenty of designs to choose from including Santa, holly, reindeer and Christmas slogans.

The bedroom can be jazzed up with a festive bedspread and pillow cases and if you want to take the look even further you can get your curtains to have a yuletide look. Consider curtains carefully though because they may look a bit over the top if they are including Christmas motifs. If you want a suitably cosy pair of curtains perhaps consider some warm-coloured velvet or silk ones - they will add a sense of luxury but they will see you through the whole winter period. The heavy weight of velvet and raw silk will help keep the chill out whilst making your house look very welcoming.

The sitting room can be adorned with shaped cushions - Santa’s, stars, Christmas trees and more. Printed cushions are also available in some cool festive designs. You can even buy a soft stag’s head if you want to!

Christmas tea towels can look great in the kitchen and they give a bit of cheer to anyone doing the cooking.

The dining room is probably the main focus on Christmas Day. Decorate your chairs with fabric covers and find yourself a beautiful table runner tor table cloth.

For those on a small budget, start your shopping in the sales for items that can be used the following year. You can get some great prices if you know where and when to look.

If you are handy with a needle and thread you can also try creating your own soft furnishings. Knowing that you made something yourself can be particularly satisfying and some items can even become family heirlooms.

If you want an elegant look and your needle and thread skills don’t match up, look around at your local shops to see they have. Sometimes you can find some interesting soft furnishings on your travels - keep an eye out when you are out and about.

Of course there’s always the web to turn to. You can find some amazing things online.

However you choose to celebrate this festive season there are plenty of soft furnishings that can help you decorate your home with a great Christmas look.
